On Friday 5th December Cirencester Parish Church will host the Oxfam Concert For Water. This wonderful event will showcase some the area’s most talented and exciting musicians.
There will be four fantastic acts performing at the show.
Ethemia are acoustic duo, Michaela Mott and Berny Poulton, who are currently touring the UK. In the two years since their formation they have performed over 240 gigs, appeared on 40 radio stations and have been spotlighted on BBC Introducing. Ethemia's spellbinding harmonies and interwoven guitar style have been likened to Fleetwood Mac and The Beautiful South.
The Blue Notes are an all female vocal ensemble who sing an exciting mix of genres. “Our repertoire straddles the borders between musical styles, from swinging jazz and haunting ballads to earthy folk songs and quirky versions of traditional melodies," explained Musical Director Simon Cohen. "Expect the unusual!"
Cirencester Community Choir are an all inclusive choral troupe whose emphasis is on singing beautiful harmony songs. “We sing a variety of types of music - pop, folk, gospel, world songs and more - so something for every taste,” said choir leader Vicky Sweeney.
The Corinium Players Guitar Ensemble perform guitar music from traditional Spanish and Latin American to popular classics. The group continues to win many local music prizes and reached the regional finals of the National Youth Festival. At the International Guitar Festival in Frankfurt, Germany the Corinium Players won the Audience Award with their rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody and Return to Sender.
During the interval you will be able to enjoy a glass of wine, drink Fair Trade tea and coffee and enjoy gorgeous homemade mince pies and cakes. There will also be a raffle with some fabulous prizes donated by the local businesses of Cirencester.
The concert aims to raise enough money to help Oxfam set up or maintain a clean water supply in a school. The scheme will help children, teachers, parents and community leaders understand just how important health and hygiene are for staying safe and will allow children to stay in school for longer. Any additional money raised will go towards the vital DEC Ebola Appeal.
The Oxfam Concert for Water takes place at 7.30pm on Friday 5th December at Cirencester Parish Church. Tickets cost £10 (£6 under 14s) and are available from the Oxfam Books & Music Shop in West Market Place.
