Corinium Museum Received High-Standards Award

Corinium Museum Received High-Standards Award

The Corinium Museum in Cirencester has been officially Accredited by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA).

The MLA’s Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for museums in the UK, and the Corinium Museum was awarded this status on July 27th.

The award is a national scheme and museums and galleries around the country are invited to apply, with entries based on how the venue is run and managed, how it looks after and documents its collections and the services it provides for its visitors.

Entrants are then judged by a national panel of experts, who examine whether museums measure up to these standards and meet the guidelines for accreditation status.

The Corinium Museum holds nationally important collections of archaeology and as well as having Accreditation status, it also won the prestigious Gold award in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards last year.

Cllr David Fowles, Cotswold District Council’s Cabinet Member for Customer Services, said: "The museum is very important to the local community and we are delighted that we have met this important new nationally-recognised standard.

"The Museum Service staff take a great deal of care in looking after our collections and providing opportunities for people to use, enjoy and learn from the collections we have on display.

"Well done to all the staff and volunteers who have worked hard to provide a top-class museum service for our visitors."

Andrew Motion, Chair of the MLA, said: "Being awarded Accreditation is an impressive achievement. It recognises the high standard and service that the Corinium Museum provides and acknowledges the hard work of the staff."
