Iron Age Mysteries to be Revealed...
Treasures and trinkets from the Iron Age are the subject of an intriguing talk at the Corinium Museum next Thursday (April 29th).
The Birdlip Grave Group is one of the finest examples of Iron Age material in Britain, and this captivating collection of ancient artefacts will be discussed by Malcolm Watkins in this fascinating evening lecture.
Found by accident by workmen in a quarry near Birdlip in 1879, the collection contains an elaborate bronze mirror, Iron Age brooches and bowls and an amber necklace and beads, as well as a human skull and various bones.
And archaeology expert Malcolm Watkins – who mounted a major exhibition on the collection when he was responsible for Gloucestershire’s Archaeology – will explain the story behind the individual items and the importance of the collection during the illustrated talk.
The lecture will start at 7pm and finish at 8.30pm. Tickets cost £5 with a 10% discount for annual season ticket holders / Friends of the Corinium Museum. Booking is essential.
Please contact the Corinium Museum on 01285 655611 or email museums@cotswold.gov.uk for further details.
