Corinium Hotel commissions replica Mosaic
The Corinium Hotel has recently completed a ground floor extension at the rear of the Hotel to include a new reception and additional lounge seating. As part of new area refurbishment, local craftsman Leigh Chapman has designed and hand crafted a Roman Mosaic for the reception area of the hotel. It is the first mosaic to be placed in a building in Cirencester for many years and will be of great interest to visitors to the town.
The Mosaic accurately reproduces both the style and appearance of the historic Corinium mosaics found on display at nearby Chedworth Roman Villa and the Corinium museum in Cirencester. In Roman times, Cirencester was an artistic centre where mosaics were made.
Corinium Mosaics, owner Leigh Chapman, has known the hotel for over 30 years said On hearing that they were planning an extension, I thought that it would be a fitting to have a mosaic in the Hotel reception. We worked closely with Tim on the design, to ensure it was historically accurate and in keeping with the rest of the hotel. We have reproduced the exact style, colours, motifs and borders as those found locally. Our mosaics are designed to replicate the style and composition of the historic originals.
Tim Waller, proprietor said; We were delighted when Leigh suggested that he could design and create a mosaic for the reception. It is very much part of local history, with Cirencester being an artistic centre. We believe that we are the only building in Cirencester to feature such a mosaic.
For further information on the Hotel, please call Proprietor Tim Waller on 01285 659711.
