Popular Award-Winning Artist returns to Corinium Museum with Christmas Exhibition

“a happy and perfect combination of art and craft, design and illustration, hand and eye.“
Steve Hare, Visual Arts Writer

From the Rolling Stones to the cover of the Radio Times, local artist Tony Meeuwissen’s portfolio stretches across five decades of popular art and illustration, gracing the Sunday Times magazine and many Penguin best sellers. On the way, he’s scooped numerous awards and designed the world’s most beautiful stamp.

Commenting on Tony’s work, visual arts writer Steve Hare has described it as: “a happy and perfect combination of art and craft, design and illustration, hand and eye. “ He continues: “Tony fills the space with the most intricate detail, in a manner which traces a direct line back to medieval scribes via Japanese art, Escher, and Magritte. And he manages to do this with a constant wry smile.”

Tony put his work on show at Cirencester’s Corinium Museum in 2010 and it was hailed as the venue’s most successful exhibition ever. Now visitors to the Museum can see more of Tony’s work with a festive slant when a new free exhibition opens on Friday 7 December and runs until Sunday 13 January 2013. The seasonal flavour includes Tony’s designs for Royal Mail Christmas stamps and Radio Times cover art. He will also be displaying exquisite and witty giclée prints, drawings, paintings, books, and scores of sketches. Tony will actually be in the Museum gallery from 12 noon – 4 pm on 13 and 20 December, and 4 and 10 January 2013

For more details of the exhibition see www.cotswold.gov.uk or telephone 01285 655611.
