Wishing Shoppers A Warm and Hi-Tech Christmas at Bishops Walk

Students from Cirencester College are creating a Jean Michel Jarre style piece of cinematograph technology to bathe the town's Bishops Walk shopping centre outside and in with unique music backed films and graphics.

"It was the idea of their lecturer Matt Reynolds and the study and the whole is quite awesome", explained marketing and PR advisor Robin Thompson whose brief from Bishops Walk agent David Allberry was:"Let's really try and plan outside the box".

The result: four Saturdays - November 30,December 7th,14th,21st from 10-30 - each with a different pre-Christmas programme, which was borne out of the Bishops Walk business committee focus meetings to beat the recession. Several new businesses have moved to Bishops Walk, the first floor has a new soft rock club and a cocktail lounge is due in the coming months. The final two empty properties in the arcade will be occupied also in the weeks ahead.

The Jarre style activities follow a scrapstore challenge, during while student from Cirencester Deer Park School and Cirencester College worked together to create six feet tall, revolving hanging mobiles in the heart of Bishops Walk. They will be specially illuminated for Christmas. Youngster from the school have performed "live" and a host of plans are afoot to bring students into the business community in the year ahead to give them a greater insight of various work style experiences.

Other schools in the area will be invited to participate in a number of challenges.

The pre Christmas events, which will change each Saturday, will include two primary school choirs from Cirencester and Sapperton, a dance troupe, carol singers, acoustic guitar player and singer Lucy Rees, who recently performed before an audience of 2000, Salvation Army Band, musical groups. Two charities will also seek funds - Paternoster School and Cirencester Home for Young People.

David Allberry said:"There's great enthusiasm for the events and everyone should be proud of what has been put together".
