CDC will provide free parking at Trinity Road, Cirencester on weekends

The car park is less than ten minutes’ walk from the centre of town, and should be easy to find if motorists enter our postcode (GL7 1PX) on satellite navigation systems

Cotswold District Council has announced that, with effect from Saturday 12 September, motorists will be able to park free of charge from 7 am to 7pm on weekends and public holidays in the authority’s Trinity Road, Cirencester car park.

The Council trialled the same free offer at weekends and public holidays earlier this year to provide additional parking spaces when the Forum Car Park in Cirencester was being refurbished, and has now decided to extend the offer for the foreseeable future to cope with peaks in general demand.

Commenting on this free offer, Cllr Chris Hancock, CDC Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Partnerships, said:

“We know that there can be a high demand for parking space in the town, especially during weekends, and several CDC Cabinet members and senior officers have embarked on a project with Cllr Mark Harris (the Mayor of Cirencester and District Councillor for Cirencester’s Abbey Ward) to tackle this issue. Although we are making good progress with this project - including capturing the views of relevant Ward Members, Cirencester Town Council, Cirencester Chamber of Commerce and local residents’ associations - we are also keen to make a difference very quickly. Making the 70 spaces and two disabled parking bays available at Trinity Road during weekends and public holidays free of charge is a logical way forward. The car park is less than ten minutes’ walk from the centre of town, and should be easy to find if motorists enter our postcode (GL7 1PX) on satellite navigation systems.

“We have already informed residents who live near the Trinity Road car park about our intentions and we have received no objections. This is probably because the free parking trial earlier this year went very well and no problems were evident. However, I can assure our neighbours that that the Council reserves the right to close the car park to the public if any problems occur in the future.”
