Cirencester Mop Fair

“We look forward to welcoming back the full Mop Fair in 2017 and planning has already begun.”

Cirencester Mop Fair will be on standby this year while the market place regeneration continues and in the absence of an alternative venue.

An annual Mop Fair has been held in Cirencester for over 650 years and is held under permission of an historical Charter; the current fun fair operator’s family has been coming to Cirencester for over a hundred years. In light of the regeneration, the Town Council has worked closely with the Mop Fair operator to ensure the rights of this historic Charter are maintained despite the non- availability of the Market Place this year.

Mayor, Mark Harris said “The Town Council is keen to preserve this historic event which is such an important date in Cirencester’s social calendar and is still greeted with eager anticipation by so many. The agreed reduction in size of the Mop Fair, for this year only, is the best way to ensure the Charter is maintained and the town still has a Mop Fair”

In order to maintain the Charter arrangements a child’s ride will be located in West Market Place between 3pm and 6pm on both days of the Mop, Monday 10th October and Monday the 17th October.

Becky Coles, Community Services Manager said “We look forward to welcoming back the full Mop Fair in 2017 and planning has already begun.”
