Cirencester Guest Book

17/6/2001 Well what can I say...I like what you've done here, it's a nice site much better that most. I was born in Ciren and moved away in 86, since then I've been back for several visits to see family and friends, in fact another visit coming soon... guess I'll be calling in the brewers to see me ol' mate Jeff

A wonderful site! I came here to get an idea of what the town was like, as I've just found out that my great-great-great-great grandfather was born here!

I'm planning to visit this city so I searched too much about any useful information. Really this site is very well designed, attractive, simple and very very useful. I do appreciate the effort you are doing to make it this way.

I was dead impressed with the site, as an expat I enjoyed my journey back in time. Best wishes to all.

The site would benefit from hot links to hotel web site where one can make bookings/enquiries online.

A really good town site. The 'Guest Book' idea is great. Are there any oral/local history groups/individuals interested in the social history of more recent times and in the less beautiful parts of town ie. Watermoor? Would love to hear from you re. potential community project.

Plan to visit Cirencester the first week of March, 2000. I lived there in 1950 when my father was stationed nearby. His name is Joe Byrd and my mother's name is Betty. My sister was born in Cirencester and her God-parents are from Cirencester. I want to try to look up where I lived as well as her godparents. Also would like to do some metal detecting.

I worked at the Kings Head last year, and I found Cirencester quiet and small, but it`s own way very charming. Now,when i`m back home, I do miss Ciren quite a lot and this site is a great opportunity to hear what`s going on there.

Emma Luostarinen, Helsinki, Finland

Visited Cirencester in 1992 for about 3 months. Played cricket and toured around. I had a great time, playing cricket in England is much more civilized than here in Australia. If anyone from the Cricket Club has access to this I would love to hear from you.

Excellent site! I was searching for towns in England to coincide with my research into my genealogy. This is one of the many towns I have listed. By the looks of your site and images here, I might just have to visit, whether or not my search ends in your town! Thanks for a well-layed out site

17/2/99 Hi. Very professional site. I've seen some terrible ones in my work but this is very good especially for a UK town guide. I lived in Cirencester as a child and as well as going to Oakley Hall between about '80 and '82. I also went to Powells for a couple of years after that before moving away from the area. If anyone can remember me from that time I'd like to hear from them, especially Charles, Tanya, Jamie, Donna Savory, and the girl who let me visit her farm for the day when I couldn't come to her party because of the mumps (I'm so sorry I can't remember her name but we were good friends then - honest). I'm also writing a book and I'd also be interested in getting more information on a murder of a woman that happened in Cirencester Park in the early eighties. I was living in the Park back then but as I was so young I only have a vague memory of these events and I'm basing the book on these events so any help would be appreciated.

16/2/99 Please could you add labels to the pictures in the gallery. My family lived in Cirencester in the last century, in Dyer Street. It would be nice, before I come visiting, to know if any part of Dyer Street remains from 1851. How about some archive material on your website?

23/1/99 Nice site! It's good to see Cirencester avalible to anyone in the world!

18/1/99 Wonderful to find my home town on the web!!  It would be nice to see more about the history of the area - shame i haven't the time to write it for you - maybe one day.
You might try to get the college  or the schools involved - pErhaps as a guide for people moving into the town.

15/1/99 You bring my beloved hometown closer, thankyou!

8/1/99 I'm amazed! I live in Jerusalem now , but have lived in Cirencester for about eighteen years of my life. It's nice to see it on the net, I thought it had long since vanished off the face of the planet.

6/1/99 Looking very nice now. Keep up the good work.

14/12/98 We stayed in the Corinium Hotel (we think).  Lovely place.  Want to take a group of 23 back there about July 25th for three days.  What's the address?

14/12/98 Hello, I am an American living in Swindon for the time being...we are moving to Wales soon...I was telling someone that I do web design and was thinking of doing a directory for the town I am soon moving to and they suggested I come view your site and I must say from an experienced eye that this is a very nice page, nicely layed out and very easy on the eye, your choice of color (oops...colour! ahaha) is very nice...I wish you all the success you can handle, trust me I know its not easy especially here in the UK getting the small to midsized business to realize that the net is really something worth investing if but a little money in!

Leslie Pickett, Swindon
11/12/98 I went to the school at Oakley Hall School from 1969 to 1974 and wondered if it is on the internet anywhere ?

David Ford

10/12/98 Great - needs more publicity!

Rob Wilson, Keble Close, Cirencester
05/12/98 This page would be more helpful if it had a business directory, there are many wonderful businesses that I would love to contact, but have been unable to locate telephone numbers.

Paula  Campbell, Austell, USA
05/12/98 I am so pleased to find your site.  We have relatives living in Frampton Mansell who we visit often - but not as often as we would wish!!  I will look around your site futher but what I see so far I really like.   Congratulations.

Doreen Tachauer, Ontario, Canada.
25/11/98 Cool page, the place I used to live is on the map!! whaaaaheyyy. I used to live in South Cerney
I barely remember cirencester though, just cobbles....

22/11/98 I used to work at Park Surgery - tried to find the area code to be able to send them a card (actually a birth announcement), but for this information I will have to look elsewhere. If there are any Cirencester doctors on the net - let me know your e-mail adress.

Nico Terpstra, Kerkweg 58, 1606 AT Venhuizen, Holland
21/11/98 Nice site. One of the most proffessional!

Dennis Jarmey, Calne, Wiltshire
29/10/98 Great site, very surprised to find it existed.   More information on what's on for children would be helpful and a map would be a good idea.  We have just moved to Kemble and it has given us a bit more information. If you advertise the site's existence in the local press I'm sure you would generate more interest and things like events could be advertised.

Helen Ward, Kemble, Cirencester
05/10/98 Thanks for the nice site.  I am planning a trip in December from the U.S. and it was great to find out a little more about the destination.

Jeff Keiser, Salix, Iowa

06/09/98 Cirencester has such a long and interesting history, I'd like to see a page on Cirencester history, starting with Roman times, through Anglo-Saxon and Norman times, and up to the present.

Henry Vincent Lewert, Michigan, USA
04/09/98 I was evacuated to Cirencester at the outbreak of war in 1939. I stayed with a family named Webb in Park View, Stratton and attended the little school in Stratton. I think the Headmaster was called Hand. I plan to visit UK in November 1998 and will certainly be coming to Cirencester!

Alan Shine, Brampton, Ontario, Canada
31/08/98 Just took a brief tour of your site, which we were pleasantly suprised to find.  The section for History was far too brief for a town such as this. May we suggest CIRENCESTER, A History and Guide, by Jean Welsford.   I purchased it in the town and it is very good.

Greg and Jacqui, Virginia, U.S.A.
13/08/98 Good site - easily navigable. It's great to see 'our' town on the web!.

Brian Russell, Kemble
26/07/98 Very informative site.  Enjoyed perusing the information

Ken Powis, Depoe Bay, USA

16/07/98 Like previous entries, I have connections with Cirencester and would like to here from anyone that remembers me or my family. I lived in and around Cirencester until I was 13, went to North Cerney Primary School and Cirencester Deer Park, as it was then, up until I left for Scotland in 70/71. I was in Derby House and the Head of House was Mr Light. My name then was Liz Robertson and My brothers are John and Andrew.

Elizabeth Getty, East Kilbride, [email protected]
28/06/98 Nice, site , I have not browsed through it all, but I hope to find out more about your city.

Jason Bell, 53 Myrtle Avenue, St. Catharines, Otario

21/06/98 My step Mother lives in Kings Hill Estates, Mrs. Charles Wood. I am looking for someone that knows her and lives near by.

Gerald Grimshaw, Langley British Columbia, Canada ([email protected])

04/06/98 I have a friend that lives in Cirencester-Gloucestershire. And I was hoping that she might have an Email address, but I could not find one. Plus I was just wanting more information about the area in which she lives in.

Kevin & Diane Conklin, Alabama USA

01/06/98 Wish you had a map on your site.. It would be very useful for visitors like myself. I will be in your beautiful city on June 16 or 17. I was born in Swindon but my parents lived in Cirencester. See you soon.

Steve Knise, Sherman Oaks, California

26/05/98 I search in the net for Cirencester because I lived there for a year and I wanted to hear about my old english town. It will be great if you can have more photos and latest news in town.

Maly Guedez, Caracas, Venezuela

23/05/98 It's strange seeing my hometown on the net.  There wasn't much detail on what younger people can do in the town.

Mat

23/05/98 I grew up in cirencester and think that more photographs should be used, to show what a pretty town it is to tourists.

Claire Simons, Merriwa, Western Australia

14/05/98 A site that can promote the local businesses in the big wide world of e-commerce has got to be a good thing!  Keep up the good work.

M. Mayes, Cirencester

11/05/98 Any chance of having some of the local news included on this site. My wife is from Ciren and now lives in Texas. A bit of news would be a very welcome addition.

Jim Grigg, Fort Worth, Texas

07/05/98 Nice to see our sleepy and underated town get some electronic attention. The music scene especially needs a bit of a push and it's good to see yo've got a link to the EmptyNet, home of Cirencester's premier band Empty aswell as others such as the freshly signed up Bug.  The site needs a fair bit of development, but keep up the good work.

May the force be with you. Rock out.

Jave Cirencester, Glos / Preston, Lancs.

06/05/98 Mmmmm - nice, but I don't like the frames. More original info rather than lists of addresses would be nice, but it's obviously early days yet!

Peter Harding

29/04/98 I like your new web site, I pass through Cirencester about 4 times a year en route to Stroud from Portsmouth, I often stop for a break and look around the town.Your web site will be very handy for information. Good luck with your site

John Fenn

28/04/98 Hey, I was feeling in a silly mood and just typing in random things in the title bar, so I tried www.Cirencester.co.uk. I live in Cirencester, and I appreciate that the page is quite new, but it needs to be improved but quite a bit. I would be willing to help in any way I can.

Andrew Carpenter, Cirencester

18/04/98 Cirencester is a lovely town with delightful shops and very efficient supermarkets. However Cirencester needs larger and more well known high street shops to become more lively and move along with modern times.
