Digging Underway for New Irrigation Reservoir at Cirencester

“This will make a huge difference to the Club to add five more irrigated grounds to the two we already have at Aston Down"

Four acre lake to provide water for all fields in the main park in 2016

Cirencester Park Polo Club are delighted to announce that the long awaited irrigation project is now well underway and on track to be in use in the 2016 season. The diggers moved in during the first week of January to dig a four acre reservoir to hold four million gallons of water and provide a state-of-the-art irrigation system.

Executive Polo Manager Tim Keyte says “This will make a huge difference to the Club to add five more irrigated grounds to the two we already have at Aston Down. It is something the players and members have been calling for and we have been trying to achieve for nearly 20 years, so to see the diggers finally doing their thing is very exciting. The lake is enormous; we are certainly not doing this by half!”

The reservoir is located between Peddington and The Ewe Pens stables, is 3m in depth and will be fed from a pre-existing bore hole, with the ability to provide water for Ivy Lodge, Meadow, Peddington, Soushi and Savannah grounds.

There have been many things to overcome in order to get to this stage, not least achieving planning permission on such a renowned, heritage site. Luckily the archeologists did not discover any Roman remains at the chosen location of the lake and some 20 months after the initial application, permission was granted.
