Corinium Museum, Cirencester
Cotswold
District Council is holding an 'after hours' opportunity to
view the Corinium Museum and its collections at 6.30pm on Thursday,
June 9th.
Participants will be offered a glass of wine, then shown to
the purpose-built lecture theatre for an illustrated talk by
Museums Service Manager Dr John Paddock on the Anglo-Saxon finds
from Butler's Field, Lechlade.
The lecture will include the fascinating story of the reconstruction
of Mrs Getty, the Anglo Saxon 'princess' so nicknamed by the
archaeologists who discovered her grave at Butler's Field. Mrs
Getty was buried with more than 500 symbols of her incredible
wealth - including gilt bronze brooches, amber beads, silver
rings and an ivory purse ring.
You will then be given time to tour the museum - including its
amazing collection of Roman artefacts and mosaics.
* The cost per ticket is £7.50
* Booking is essential by telephoning the Museum on 01285 655611.
(The museum
usually closes at 5pm so this is an opportunity for individuals
to look round within a limited party. Normally, you have to
make a group booking to do this).
