HALF-TERM FUN AT THE CORINIUM MUSEUM

A taste of life in a Victorian prison is on the menu for half-term week at the Corinium Museum, Cirencester.

Education Officer Amanda Hart will be serving up bread and gruel at three special events for children and families. Youngsters will also get the chance to dress up in prison uniform and sign the register – as well as learning more about crime and punishment in Victorian times.

There are two workshops on prison life for children on Wednesday, June 1st from 10am - 12pm for 5-8 year olds and Thursday, June 2nd from 10am - 12pm for 9- 12 year olds. And there’s a family learning session, to include parents, on Wednesday, June 1st from 2 - 4pm.

The cost of the children’s events is £4 per child (£2 for museum cardholders), while the family event costs £3.50 for adults and £2 for children. Booking is essential – please telephone the museum on 01285 655611.

There are also special outreach events around the District in Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Tetbury, Fairford and Moreton-in-Marsh.

On Tuesday May 31st, there’s a chance for 7-12 year olds to make their own Roman Mosaic at Stow Library from 2pm to 4.30pm. Tickets are £6.00, please book at the library on 01451 830352.

Roman Myths & Masks are the subject of a children’s workshop at Bourton Youth Club on Wednesday June 1st from 2pm -4pm. Youngsters can listen to Roman myths, then make a mask representing one of the mythical characters. The workshop is suitable for 6-11 year olds and costs £4 per child or £2 to museum cardholders, Please book at Bourton Library on 01386 840692.

The Beautiful Pea Green Boat Show, a special theatrical performance by Geoff Hales of the Travelling Theatre, will be calling in at five venues in the Cotswolds. The 40-minute show features a collection of nonsense poems – including the Jumblies and Jabberwocky – and a chance to write your own.
