Fifth annual Wacky Races event
Tetbury Lions will be holding their annual Wacky Races soapbox derby on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May. Practice sessions start at around 10.00 am and racing starts at approximately 1.00 pm. The course runs down Chipping Street turning a sharp hairpin bend (crash corner!) in front of the Royal Oak public house to finish on Millennium Green. The course is quite steep so competitors can expect to reach speeds of up to 30 mph. After the practice session each of the 35 competitors must complete two timed runs, the aggregate time of each will determine final race positions. Each driver will receive a medal and trophies will be awarded to the fastest adult team, the fastest youth team and the team that has the wackiest vehicle. The event is already established as a major visitor attraction and a premier fundraising event for Tetbury Lions. In addition to the races, refreshments and entertainment will be available at both the start and finish areas, which can become quite congested. The net surplus from the day, which we hope will be several thousand pounds, is going towards replacing the wheelchair accessible vehicle that is available to all residents in the town. You are welcome to come along and enjoy the day.
