An Exciting Easter Beckons at the Corinium Museum

Come to the Corinium Museum over the Easter holidays for a cornucopia of hands-on historical fun.

The museum – located on Park Street, Cirencester – has organised a wide range of educational events this April, including workshops, drop-in activity sessions and seminars to keep the youngsters entertained during the Easter break.

The fun starts on Tuesday April 6th with the first of the museum’s four workshops, called Romans: What not to Wear. This event – from 2pm-3.30pm – will give participants the chance to find out about typical clothing styles in the days of Roman Cirencester, while in Britannia Bling, on Monday April 12th (also 2pm-3.30pm), they can make their own piece of Roman jewellery to take home.

Medieval Face Pots, on Thursday April 15th (2pm-3.30pm) is another creative workshop, while Friday April 16th’s Medieval Castles (10.30am-12pm) invites participants to build their own fortress. All four workshops – which cost £4 – reduced to £2 for annual season ticket holders – are suitable for 7-12 year olds and booking is essential.

Children can also enjoy the museum’s two drop-in sessions. The The Green Man activity, on Wednesday April 7th, invites them to make a collage based on the famous foliage figure representing rebirth. This is followed by Tudor Hats and Headdresses a week later on Wednesday April 14th, encouraging the children to take on the appearance of a Tudor king or queen by donning their own hand-made headgear. Both these activities run from 2-4pm and the price is included in museum admission (alternatively, there is a cost of £1 for the activity only.)

The seminar being hosted over the Easter break is Jet: A Roman Industry. This archaeology talk on Tuesday April 13th (3-4pm) is for 9-12 year olds and features a hands-on look at the museum’s treasure of the month. This costs £4 (£2 for annual season ticket holders) and booking is essential.

For further information on any of the above events, please contact the Corinium Museum’s Amanda Hart on 01285 655611 or by email, Amanda.hart@cotswold.gov.uk
