There's Still Time to Sign Up for Waste Service
Residents wishing to take part in one of the best recycling schemes in the country can still sign up and be a part of Cotswold District Council’s bid to top the nation’s recycling chart.
The third year of the Council’s paid-for garden and food waste collection service starts on Thursday April 1st, and CDC is urging residents who have not yet joined to do so and help contribute to the District’s excellent recycling/composting rate of 62% - the second best in the UK and also ranked highly in Europe.
Those signing up to the service for 2010-11 will have their garden waste collected weekly across the District, provided they have paid a £30 licence fee to use the green garden waste wheeled bins.
Additional licences can be purchased for a further £30 each per annum and residents who have subscribed to the service can also empty their unwanted food waste into the green bins.
Alternatively, for those residents who cannot accommodate a green wheeled bin at their property, 50 compostable brown paper garden waste sacks can also be purchased for £30 (available from the Council’s Trinity Road offices or the Moreton Area Centre)
Residents who receive Council Tax or Housing Benefit are entitled to a 50% discount.
Councillor Mark Tufnell, Cotswold District Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities, said: "Over half of the households in the district have already signed up for this service, which speaks volumes about the enthusiasm for recycling in this area.
"New subscribers are joining the scheme daily and it would be great if we could get even more onboard before 1st April.
"As we continue reducing the amount of waste which goes to landfill we will help combat climate change and reduce the amount of landfill taxes paid by residents across the county."
The Council’s licensed garden waste service was launched in April 2008.
Garden waste placed in green bins is collected weekly for composting. Food waste is also collected weekly in Council-issued green kitchen caddies or green garden waste wheeled bins (if subscribed to the garden waste service). Non-recyclable waste is collected fortnightly in Council-issued grey wheeled bins or beige bin bags. Paper, glass, cans/tins, card and cardboard are collected fortnightly for recycling in Council-issued black recycling boxes and blue reusable cardboard sacks.
