New Waste Collection Arrangements
Cotswold District Council will start introducing new refuse and recycling collection rounds, to simplify arrangements and increase efficiency, on week beginning 14th June.
The Council, working with its waste contractor SITA UK, is preparing to launch new refuse and recycling collection zones across the district. This will be introduced over the fortnight beginning Monday 14th June, and will involve a change in collection day for many residents. Each household will soon receive details of the new rounds, advising them of the new collection arrangements, together with new collection calendars.
Councillor Mark Tufnell, the Cabinet Member for Communities and the Environment, said: "The biggest benefit of the new rounds is that it will even out the work of the contractors better, making it easier for managers to supervise crews, cutting down on crossing over of routes and subsequent fuel usage, and enabling more vehicles to be easily on hand should there be a breakdown. The changes will also standardise collection days for everyone so that residents will receive their collections for refuse, recycling and green waste all on the same day. We estimate that the total annual savings could be as much as £70,000.
"We have taken expert advice about achieving the most efficient collections in this district, and we have also consulted with Parish and Town Council representatives, to consider their requirements before we go live with this new scheme."
To achieve maximum efficiency, the district will be divided into 10 collection zones for fortnightly refuse and recycling collections; the food and garden waste collections, which are weekly, will be divided into five zones. Most households will see a change in their collection days but a small minority will retain their current arrangements. Collections are made throughout the day using different vehicles and collection times may also change, so residents must ensure that all containers are presented at kerbside by 7am on their collection day (unless they receive an assisted collection).
Letters outlining the changes and new collection calendars are currently being dispatched to all households in the district; and they also provide contact information for further advice. This direct mailshot will be supplemented by a poster and media campaign, and refuse contractors will also be placing ‘hangers’ (highlighting the changes) on bins around the district.
