A Parisian Christmas in Cirencester Parish Church

Une Nuit de Noel, Christmas organ music by Parisian composers: Cirencester Parish Church hosts a concert to launch the latest CD released by Priory Records.

On Saturday 5th November, 7:30pm, a little bit of Paris will come into the Cotswolds with a CD launch concert in Cirencester Parish Church. Released on leading British classical music label, Priory Records, the latest recording by Cirencester’s Anthony Hammond, and recorded at the church, will be performed in its entirety, giving the audience a very special, early taste of Christmas.

The CD takes listeners on a journey through the history of Christmas organ music in the City of Light. Works range from the eighteenth to the twentieth century. But if you’re expecting Jingle Bells and Hark the Herald you may be disappointed. What makes this CD stand out from the plethora of Christmas recordings available is its imagination and variety. Whilst many of the tunes will be familiar (Adeste Fideles, Noel Nouvelet and Marche des Rois, for example) the arrangements and other works will take you by surprise, bringing back memories of older Christmas favourites combined with a flavour of Paris through the ages.

Works performed include those by Daquin, Boëly, Guilmant, Mulet, Dupré, Langlais, Saint-Martin and Cochereau, featuring a number of Hammond’s own transcriptions from live performances.

Tickets are priced at £10 and are available on the door or at The Corner Stone. A 50% discount off purchases of the new CD, on the night, will be available with every ticket sold.
