'Telling Tales' - Exhibition by Bath Textile Artists coming to Corinium Museum

An exhibition at Cirencester's Corinium Museum from 18 January to 23 February which brings together an eclectic mix of textile disciplines

The eleven members of the Bath Textile artists have taken the theme ''Telling Tales'' and interpreted it in many different ways. Weaving threads of history and mystical meanings, they will present an exhibition at Cirencester's Corinium Museum from 18 January to 23 February which brings together an eclectic mix of textile disciplines.

Using archaeology and history as a stimulus, the group explores the symbols which our ancestors used to capture their own stories. By means of patterns and shapes, found objects and ephemera the group derives inspiration from the many facets that make up our past.

Two members of the group have delved into children''s stories and their rich imagery, one has investigated stone circles and another has taken the journey of 'fleece to fabric' as a theme. Rural landscapes and the Cityscape of nearby Bristol also offer inspiration for work using the crisscrossing of footpaths, redundant docklands, flora and fauna, clothing and the stories held within. Drawing on these diverse themes, group members have yielded surprising personal interpretations.

The members of this lively group work in colour and texture, fibre and fabric, exploring the vast field which is textile art today. Feltmaking, hand and machine embroidery, weaving, painting on fabric, work in two and three dimensions are all included.

The exhibition is free to enter via the Museum Shop/Cirencester Visitor Information Centre, 2 Park Street, Cirencester GL7 2BX. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10 am - 4 pm, Sundays 2-4 pm.
