Morrisons has opened its 50th M local store, creating 1000 new jobs so far across the UK with more on offer in Cirencester.

The opening of the 50th Morrisons M local in Derby is a major milestone in Morrisons’ plan to expand in the convenience sector. As part of its broader Fit for the Future strategy, Morrisons plans to have 100 stores open by the end of this year and create 2000 jobs in total.
20 jobs have already been created in each of the 50 new M local stores so far. With 50 more to open by the end of the financial year, Morrisons is looking to fill 1000 additional positions and is now recruiting for team members, team leaders, assistant store managers and store managers in its M local stores.

Morrisons M local in Cirencester opened on 30th September and is looking for a team of 20 store managers, assistant store managers, team leaders and team members.

Mandy Flatley, HR Director New Business Development at Morrisons, commented:

“This is a fantastic landmark for everyone at Morrisons. We’re delighted to have welcomed 1000 new recruits to the team across 50 M local sites in all corners of the UK. But it doesn’t stop here. We have ambitious plans to grow our convenience business, so now is a really exciting time to join us.

“Our success is built on our people and putting the customer at the heart of everything we do. So as we grow into new communities such as Cirencester we’re encouraging friendly and hard working people to join us and help us achieve our goal of giving customers excellent service every time.”

Gemma Hayes-Logan, Store Manager at Morrisons M local in York, said:

“Morrisons has offered me a great role in a friendly and close-knit team. There are very strong training and development programmes and the work is really varied so it’s impossible to get bored. I also like that I get to know the customers in the community – I know most of them by name now. It’s exciting to be part of a business that is growing every day.”

The opening of the 50th store in Derby comes soon after openings in various UK regions, from London’s West End to Kilmarnock, and Windsor to York. After the opening of the first M local in 2011, Morrisons’ convenience format is expanding rapidly at a rate of between two and six new convenience stores every single week.

Along with every Morrisons M local, the Cirencester store will deliver what customers like most about Morrisons to where they work or pass on the way home. It will be distinctively Morrisons, with more space dedicated to fresh food compared to its competitors.
