Where is the Abbey Grounds in Cirencester?

Cirencester's Abbey Grounds can be found behind the Market Place and Parish Church. Entrances can be found off Gosditch Street, the Abbey Grounds car park (Dugdale Road), through the Norman Arch off Grove Lane, Corinium Gate and from the Waterloo Car Park.

St Mary's Abbey and Roman Remains

The Abbey Grounds is a wonderful space for everyone to enjoy, just a short walk from the town centre. There's a bandstand which is the stage for many performances duting the summer months, an enclosed play area for children, and plenty of opportunites to spot wildlife around the lake and river.

The Abbey Grounds is home to the Phoenix Festival, a two day music event that started in 2013.

The Abbey Grounds is also home to the site of St Mary's Abbey which was completely demolished in 1539. St Mary's Abbey was consecrated in 1176 in the presence of Henry II.

A portion of ancient Roman Wall is also situated in the grounds.
